About the Black Shamo
The Black Shamo is a solid, beetle-green-glossed black throughout, one of the original APA-recognised varieties (alongside Dark and Black-Breasted Red). The dense black contrasts strikingly with the breed's sparse, hard feathering and bare red points, emphasising the tall, muscular, upright carriage prized in this Japanese gamefowl. Colour earns no points in the standard, which judges the bird on type and presence.
