About the Cuckoo Silkie

Cuckoo Silkies are barred birds: the sex-linked barring gene lays alternating dark and pale bands across each feather, which the breed's soft, fur-like plumage softens into a smoky, mottled, zig-zag effect rather than crisp stripes. It is a non-standard colour still gaining recognition, but is increasingly bred; being sex-linked, barring can aid chick sexing.
