About the Black Spanish White Faced
The sole plumage of the breed is a lustrous, tight-feathered black carrying a strong beetle-green sheen and free of purple barring. Against this glossy black, the breed's defining feature stands out: a chalk-white face and long, low-hanging white earlobes that seem to "melt" downward, giving the masked, theatrical look. Admitted to the APA Standard in 1874 and listed Critical by The Livestock Conservancy, it is a rare heritage layer of large white eggs and a flighty, active non-sitter.
