About the Wheaten Sulmtaler
The original and defining colour of the breed: warm gold-wheaten plumage, with cocks carrying richer red-gold hackle and saddle over a darker breast, and hens in soft, even golden-wheaten body feather. This was the only colour standardised in 1958 and the form in which the Sulmtaler is still almost exclusively bred. A calm Austrian dual-purpose table fowl from the Sulmtal valley, the hens topped by a neat little crest and laying cream to light-brown eggs.
