About the Blue Sumatra

A blue-dilution form of the black, showing a soft, even slate blue-grey plumage in place of the beetle-green-black, the result of a single dose of the blue dilution gene (so it does not breed fully true, throwing black and splash). It is the only colour besides black recognised by the American Poultry Association, admitted comparatively recently in 2003, and is also standardised in the UK. It keeps the breed's flowing low tail, gypsy face and multiple-spur trait, simply in a paler, smoky tone.
