About the Brown Warren

The Brown Warren shows the classic golden-to-russet brown body with cream-tipped tail feathers that earned the hybrid its "original little brown hen" reputation. The colour arises from its sex-linked parentage — typically a Rhode Island Red over a Light Sussex — letting chicks be sexed by down colour at hatch. Beneath the familiar plumage sits a calm, friendly, exceptionally hardy layer that pours out large light-brown eggs, making her the standard first hen for new keepers.
