About the Partridge Welsummer
The original and by far the most common Welsummer colour, partridge gives the breed its familiar look: a rich red-brown hen with each back and wing-bow feather stippled or peppered with black over a light shaft, a chestnut-red breast and a golden-brown copper-striped hackle. The cock carries a golden-brown head and hackle, a black breast with red mottling and lustrous beetle-green tail. This is the standardised plumage behind the breed's deep terracotta, often speckled eggs and its hardy dual-purpose nature.
