About the Silver Barred Wybar
The Silver is the original Wybar, descended from the silver-laced Wyandotte and Barred Plymouth Rock cross that founded the breed around 1950. Its black-and-white barred plumage carries the silver (S) gene, giving crisp monochrome bars rather than any warm tone, and it is this silver-on-barred patterning that lets day-old chicks be sexed by colour. A sturdy, soft-feathered, cold-hardy heavy bird, calm in a mixed flock, though very rare even within an already scarce breed.
