About the White Java Dove
Pure snow-white throughout, the White Java Dove is the all-white colour form of the long-domesticated Barbary (ringneck) dove, produced by a colour mutation that suppresses pigment so the bird carries none of the fawn ground or dark neck-ring of wild-type stock. It is the iconic 'dove of peace' released at weddings and used in stage magic. Like all Barbary doves it is gentle, tame, soft-cooing and long-lived, but lacks a homing instinct, so released birds must be recovered rather than left to find their way home.
