About the Fawn Ring-necked Dove

The fawn (blond) bird is the classic, long-domesticated Barbary form of the Ringneck Dove and the colour the breed is named for: a soft pinkish-fawn body with the slim black half-collar at the nape. Genetically it is the sex-linked dilute of the dark (wild-type) colour, recessive to dark and dominant to white. This is the original, easily-kept aviary dove kept for centuries before the modern colour mutations arose.
