About the Pied Ring-necked Dove

Pied birds carry irregular patches of white among the normally pigmented feathers, the proportion varying from lightly flecked to mostly white. It is an autosomal recessive trait (gene symbol pi); pied birds typically show a dark ruby ("black") eye and lack the orange-red eye-ring, and even carriers may show a few white head feathers. The patterning sits over whatever ground colour the bird carries, on the same quiet, long-lived pet dove.
