About the Silver Abacot Ranger
Silver is the Abacot Ranger's only standardised colour, and it gives the breed its 'Hooded Ranger' nickname: a hood of fawn-buff feathers over a creamy-white, finely streaked body. The drake carries a green-black hood, red-brown breast and flanks, and a silver neck-ring, while the duck is softer in brown-on-cream streaking. This silver wild-colour form was preserved in Germany and reintroduced to Britain in the 1970s, then standardised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain and the British Waterfowl Association in 1987. As with the breed at large, it remains a thrifty, active white-egg layer and is now critically rare.
