About the Buff Orpington Duck
The single recognised colour: an even, warm fawn-buff with a reddish undertone, ideally free of grey, white or pencilled feathers and any white neck ring; drakes carry a darker seal-brown head and upper neck finishing in a clean line, with only the faintest blue permitted on the rump. Buff is a notoriously unstable colour form — it splits into buff, blond and brown offspring — so a true even buff takes careful selection. Standardised in Britain in 1910 and admitted to the APA in 1914 under the name 'Buff' alone, this friendly, quiet, quick-maturing dual-purpose duck is now an RBST priority and Livestock Conservancy Watch breed.
