About the Black Crested Duck
The Black is the other standardised Crested variety, admitted to the American Standard of Perfection in 1977 — black and white are the only two colours the APA or UK standards recognise. Ideally the plumage is solid black with a green sheen, topped by the same round skull crest as the white. An active, charming ornamental duck and a fair layer of white eggs; like all Cresteds it must be bred crested to plain because the crest gene is lethal when doubled.
