About the Blue Crested Duck
The Blue shows a soft, silvery slate plumage — the dilution form of black, which gives it a smoky, muted tone rather than solid colour. Blue is a breeder-developed colour and is not recognised by the APA or the UK standard, which accept only Black and White (Europe permits a wider range). In all other respects it is a standard Crested duck: lively, ornamental, laying white eggs, and necessarily bred crested to plain since the crest-producing gene is lethal in double dose.
