About the Grey Crested Duck
The Grey wears the wild-type mallard pattern — the drake greyish-bodied with a green head and the duck mottled brown — carried under the breed's round skull crest. Grey (mallard) is one of the colours bred by hobbyists but, like Buff and Blue, is not recognised by the APA or UK standard, where only Black and White are accepted. A historical Norfolk crested strain was noted in slate-grey and bluish dun tones. Otherwise typical: active, ornamental, a white-egg layer, and always bred crested to plain because the crest gene is lethal doubled.
