About the Black And White Magpie Duck
The original and only fully standardised colour, black-and-white shows a glossy solid-black cap on the crown and a black back, scapulars and tail that form a heart-shaped patch over an otherwise white body. It was the founding variety from the breed's 1921 creation in Wales and the sole colour the Poultry Club of Great Britain recognised until 1997. As with all Magpies, this is a light, active forager and a reliable layer of white to pale-green eggs.
