About the Blue Miniature Crested Duck

The blue Crested Miniature shows an even blue-grey plumage produced by a single dose of the blue dilution gene, which softens what would otherwise be black to a slate-grey shade across the whole bird; the characteristic crest tops the small, active body. Blue sits among the colours bred beyond the original black and white, and under the UK and European standards the Crested Miniature is accepted in any colour so long as markings are symmetrical. As blue is heterozygous it does not breed true, and like every crested duck it must be paired crested-to-plain to avoid the lethal double crest gene.
