About the Miniature Silver Appleyard
The silver plumage is a light, restricted-mallard pattern: pigment-limiting genes make both face and body markedly paler than a wild Mallard, yet the duck still carries a distinct deep-fawn line through the eye that the exhibition standard explicitly calls for. As with the full-size Appleyard, ducklings show the tell-tale 'Mohawk' head-stripe — its absence means the bird is not genetically an Appleyard. Standardised in 1997 by the BWA, this is the only colour of the breed: a hardy, broody bantam duck about a third the size of the standard Silver Appleyard.
