About the Pied Muscovy

Pied is the heterozygous expression of the white-spotting gene: an irregular mix of white patches over a coloured (typically black) base, the proportion of white varying bird to bird. One copy of the gene gives this piebald marking, while two copies produce a fully white duck. The underlying colour and the breed's hardy, quiet, broody meat-bird nature are unchanged by the spotting.
