About the White Pekin Duck
The Pekin's only recognised plumage is its creamy-white feathering, set off by a bright yellow-orange bill, legs and feet — a look that has defined the breed since it entered the very first APA Standard of Perfection in 1874. The white feathers were a deliberate advantage for the table: pale pinfeathers leave a cleaner, more saleable carcass than the dark Cayuga it displaced. Behind the colour sits a big, fast-growing, placid heavy duck that lays white eggs and makes an easy-going pet as readily as a meat bird.
