About the Rouen Clair
The Rouen Clair wears light-phase ('clair') mallard plumage, paler than the dark-phase colouring of the standard Rouen: the female shows a soft Isabelle-clair ground rather than rich brown, and on the speculum the light-phase gene gives the secondary coverts fine white tips not seen on dark-phase ducks. Set on a slightly more upright, lighter frame than the great Rouen, this French dual-purpose duck keeps the handsome mallard look while laying far better.
