About the Buff Blue With White Markings Saxony
The Saxony's sole recognised colour is a soft buff-blue pattern produced genetically by the light-phase mallard gene paired with a double dose of blue dilution (li/li, Bl/Bl). The drake shows a blue-grey head, a clean white neck-ring, a rust-chestnut breast and cream underbody; the duck is a warm buff with creamy white facial stripes, neck-ring and underbody. This pastel dilution of the Rouen-type pattern is what defines the breed, admitted to the British Waterfowl Standards in 1982 and the APA Standard of Perfection in 2000. A big dual-purpose layer of white eggs, it remains a threatened rare breed.
