About the Black With White Bib Shetland Duck
The sole plumage of this critically rare Scottish landrace: glossy black shot with iridescent green and blue, broken by a crisp white bib that runs from the lower mandible down over the breast, with occasional white flecking on the head. Drakes carry yellow-tinged bills and orange in the legs while ducks stay all-black, and birds can pale with age. Built for a hard northern life, it is among the most prolific of duck layers, though it remains unrecognised by the Poultry Club of Great Britain and survives only in a few dozen birds.
