About the White Emu
White Emus are the homozygous form of the same leucism gene that produces the blonde — two copies give a lightly-peppered near-white bird, often with blue eyes (distinct from true albinism). Whites are markedly rarer than blondes and more inbred, since the colour is uncommon, and breeders caution against pairing white-to-white. Beneath the pale coat it remains a full-sized Emu with the breed's hardy ratite traits and deep-green eggs.
