About the American Buff
The single recognised variety, named for its soft apricot-fawn buff plumage: the buff feathers of the back and sides are edged in creamy white over a near-white abdomen, set off by an orange to reddish-orange bill and feet with a pale nail. Breeders favour an even medium buff free of grey tones, though some checkering or mottling persists even in top show birds. This is the gentle, dual-purpose American goose accepted into the APA Standard in 1947 and now a Watch-listed rare breed whose buff plumage hides soil yet dresses out cleanly.
