About the Shetland Goose
The Shetland's plumage is sex-linked and readable from hatch: ganders are pure white with blue eyes, while geese carry a grey-and-white saddleback pattern — grey shoulders, secondary flights and thigh coverts over a largely white head, neck and underbody, with pink beak and legs throughout. This natural auto-sexing makes pairs easy to sort without handling. A small, exceptionally hardy heritage grazer from the Shetland Islands, it thrives on rough ground and sits on the RBST Watchlist as a vulnerable UK breed.
