About the Blue Neck Ostrich
Often called the Zimbabwe Blue, this is the South African ostrich (Struthio camelus australis), named for the bluish-grey skin of the neck and upper legs that intensifies in breeding cocks. It is the tallest of the farmed types, reaching around 2.7m and 140kg, but retains a more wild temperament and yields poorer feather quality than the African Black. Like all ostriches it is hardy and dramatic, farmed chiefly for hide and meat.
