About the Red Neck Ostrich
The Red Neck is the East African / Masai ostrich (Struthio camelus massaicus), distinguished by the reddish-pink skin of the neck and legs that flushes vivid red in breeding cocks. The heaviest of the farmed types at up to around 160kg, it is the most wild and aggressive, with poorer feather quality, so it is run mainly for leather and meat by experienced keepers rather than beginners. It keeps the speed, size and hardiness typical of the species.
