About the Grey-Brown With Chestnut Horseshoe Mark Grey Partridge
This is the wild-type plumage of the native Grey Partridge: a brown-mottled back over soft grey flanks and breast, an orange-buff face, and a white belly carrying the bird's signature dark chestnut horseshoe. The mark is large and bold on the cock and smaller, duller or sometimes absent on the hen, making it the surest field cue to sex. A neat, rounded farmland gamebird, it is now UK red-listed after steep declines, so rearing this classic native colour form has real conservation value.
