About the Japanese Green Common Pheasant
The Japanese Green (Phasianus versicolor), Japan's national bird, is the most distinct of the group: the cock is uniformly bottle-green over breast and belly with a purplish-blue head and neck, red facial skin, and never any white neck ring. It carries a shorter tail than the common pheasant and is endemic to the Japanese archipelago. Often treated as a full species and kept here largely as an ornamental.
