About the Ringneck Common Pheasant
The Chinese ringneck (P. c. torquatus group) is the form most people picture: a broad, clean white collar separating the iridescent green-purple head from the coppery-bronze body, with paler tan-grey wing coverts. It is the workhorse of the British shooting field and the basis of most reared stock, hardy and prolific. The ring varies from broad in north-eastern birds to narrower further south-west.
