About the Dark Blue With White Crest Edwards's Pheasant

The classic nominate Edwards's Pheasant: the cock is almost entirely black with a strong blue-iridescent gloss across the body, metallic-green fringes to the wing coverts, and vivid scarlet facial skin and red legs, set off by a short white crest (and white upper tail) that distinguishes the nominate form from the northern Vietnamese type with its variable white tail feathers. The hen is a plain chestnut-brown with no crest. A compact, calm bird of high conservation importance — critically endangered and possibly extinct in the wild, surviving chiefly through ex-situ aviculture.
