About the Chestnut And White Elliot's Pheasant
This is the species' natural plumage: cock birds carry rich rufous-chestnut on the mantle and upper breast (each feather sub-terminally banded and coppery-fringed), a grey head, white nape and belly, a black chin and throat, red bare facial skin, and a long whitish tail boldly barred with grey and rust. Hens are the more muted rufous-brown with a blackish throat. As a monotypic species there is no colour mutation, so chestnut-and-white is simply the wild form of this hardy, calm aviary pheasant.
