About the Black With White Crest Kalij Pheasant

This is the western Himalayan White-crested Kalij (L. l. hamiltoni): a glossy blue-black cock whose one departure from the rest of the species is a striking white crest, where all other subspecies carry a blue-black crest. The body is otherwise the dark, white-rumped form of the breed, paired with the bare red face. As with all Kalij it is a hardy, easy-going ornamental pheasant and a sound starter bird.
