About the Dark Blue, White And Red Swinhoe's Pheasant

The single recognised colour form of the species and its wild type: the cock carries a glossy blue-purple body shot with metallic green over the shoulders, set against a pure white crest, nape and central tail, with vivid red facial wattles and red legs. These three colours — red, white and blue — echo Taiwan's flag, and the bird is treated there as an unofficial national symbol. The hen is a cryptic mottled brown. A near-threatened (IUCN) Taiwanese endemic that breeds readily in aviculture.
