About the Red With White Spots Temminck's Tragopan
The signature and only standard plumage of the cock: a stocky bird in rich orange-red, deepening from a lighter orange head and collar to brick-red flanks, the whole body spangled with pearly white spots ringed in black (ocelli). In courtship he inflates a vivid electric-blue throat lappet patterned with red, raises a pair of fleshy blue horns, and shows bare blue facial skin. The hen is a plainer mottled brown. Among the most beloved tragopans, it is hardy and relatively willing to breed in captivity.
