About the Pied English Pouter

The pied (marked) English Pouter carries a defined pattern of white over a coloured ground rather than being whole-coloured: the standard prizes a clean white "rose" on the wing butts, white flights and white feet, a marking notoriously hard to breed true. Most marked English Pouters are bred on an ash-red base. Beneath the markings it is the same tall, long-legged, balloon-cropped exhibition bird Darwin called the most distinct of all pigeons.
