About the Butler Bobwhite Quail
Not a colour phase but a size strain, the Butler bobwhite carries normal wild-type rufous-and-grey plumage and the cock's white throat and brow, selectively bred upward for body weight. Birds bred for size can approach 16 ounces, with the average male around 12 ounces, well above a typical wild bobwhite. It is kept where a larger, meatier bird is wanted while retaining the classic bobwhite look and call.
