About the Georgia Giant Bobwhite Quail
A man-made strain selected for size and productivity rather than colour, the Georgia Giant keeps essentially wild-type bobwhite plumage but reaches roughly a pound at maturity, around three times the weight of a wild bird. Bred also for strong flight (long wing and tail feathers) and heavy egg laying, it is favoured for hunting preserves and meat over the smaller native form, while still showing the cock's white throat and brow and giving the familiar 'bob-WHITE' call.
