About the Tennessee Red Bobwhite Quail
A colour mutation of the Northern Bobwhite in which both sexes wear an all-over auburn-red plumage, the cock losing the wild bird's grey and black mask but keeping a characteristic white patch on the centre of the breast. The morph was documented in the early 20th century and built up through Tennessee breeding programmes, after which it took its name. It remains relatively scarce and has a reputation for being notably aggressive, but is otherwise the same plump game quail at heart.
