About the Wild Type Brown Bobwhite Quail

The original, naturally occurring colour of the Northern Bobwhite: a plump ground bird in warm rufous and grey, finely barred and scaled below, the cock carrying the species' signature bold white throat and white brow-stripe set off by a black mask, the hen replacing the white with buff. This wild-type plumage is the baseline from which every other colour phase is a mutation, and it is the form behind the clear whistled 'bob-WHITE' call.
