About the Silver Button Quail
Silver is a recessive dilution that lightens the bird to soft pastel greys, with the black pigment softened to pale blue-grey and the wild markings muted; it is among the oldest and most common mutations, having arisen as a natural mutation in the UK in the 1940s. Two silvers breed 100% silver, but the gene can sit hidden in carrier lines. It otherwise keeps the breed's tiny size and gentle, easy aviary temperament.
