About the Grey And Brown With Black Plume California Quail
The classic wild-type California Quail: soft blue-grey breast and brown back, chestnut-and-white streaked flanks, and a belly so heavily dark-edged it looks neatly scaled. The cock wears the species' signature forward-curling black teardrop topknot (actually six overlapping feathers, longer than the hen's) above a black face outlined in white. This is the only plumage in which the breed is normally kept, showing off the dapper, scaled, plumed look that makes it a popular ornamental aviary quail.
