About the Grey And Chestnut With Black Plume Gambel's Quail
The standard wild colouration of Gambel's quail: a soft blue-grey body with rich chestnut flanks streaked white, set off in the cock by a coppery-chestnut crown, bold black face and throat, white eye-stripes, and a distinctive black belly patch. Both sexes carry the comma-shaped forward-curving black teardrop topknot. The black breast patch and largely unscaled buff belly separate it from the otherwise similar California quail, making this striking desert bird a favourite ornamental and aviary species.
