About the Pharaoh Japanese Quail
Pharaoh is the wild-type Coturnix colour: an even speckled brown with straight pale vertical streaks down the back and barred wings. It is the one variety that sexes by feather alone — cocks carry a plain rusty-cinnamon breast while hens show a black-speckled, paler chest. As the original strain it is the most prolific and widely kept, the benchmark for the breed's six-week maturity and ~300-egg laying.
