About the Brown Jumbo Coturnix
The brown Coturnix carries the Extended Brown (EB) mutation, which boosts eumelanin to wash the wild-type pattern into a far darker, redder bird. As an incomplete-dominant gene it shows two forms: heterozygous Rosetta is an almost wholly reddish-brown bird with light feather shafts and mottled pink-and-brown toes, while homozygous Tibetan is a near-uniform dark brown to near-black with darker feet. Unlike feather-sexable Pharaoh, EB birds lack the sex-linked breast cue. On the Jumbo frame this darker colour is combined with the same large, quick-maturing, productive meat bird.
