About the Grey And Chestnut With Long Straight Plume Mountain Quail
This is the wild-type plumage of the Mountain Quail: a slate-grey head and breast set against a brown back, with chestnut flanks boldly barred in black and white and a chestnut throat ringed by a white border. Its hallmark is the pair of long, straight head plumes that stand upright like an exclamation point (shorter in the hen). The largest of the American quails, it is kept purely as an ornamental gamebird by dedicated aviculture and gamebird enthusiasts.
