About the Black Greater Rhea
The largest bird in the Americas, the Greater Rhea is a tall, grey-brown flightless ratite of the South American grasslands, related to the ostrich and emu. The male is the sole parent — building the nest, incubating a big communal clutch and raising the young. Fast-running and adaptable, it's farmed for meat, feathers, eggs and leather. A near-threatened giant of the pampas.
