About the White Greater Rhea
A leucistic colour form with white body plumage, the white Greater Rhea occurs naturally in the wild (notably in Argentina, where leucistic birds with blue eyes and true albinos are recorded) and is a recognised variety in rhea farming, where greys and whites are run together with no reported difference in hardiness. Leucism reduces pigment in the feathers only, so eyes, bill and bare parts keep normal colour. Otherwise identical to the grey-brown bird in size, habits and the male's sole role in incubation.
